The vampire, Vincent, is a first class jerk. I’m not talking a little bit… I’m talking a lot of bit. If he is supposed to be the vampire in the vampire romance, he’s gonna have to do a lot of schmoozing to gain any affection out of me. *scoff* What a jerk. The premise is that Liz’s roommate is a detective (PI) and Vincent is part of his protection system – unwillingly, I might add. Liz’s roommate gets himself killed and Liz inherits the agency and Vincent….. again, unwillingly.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.A Bit of A Bumpy Start But I Think That the Series Has PotentialBy PURPLE JEWELSThis was only an okay start to a new series. I would have liked more character development for Liz, Tim and Vincent and the dialogue between Liz and Vincent was rather lacking. I really did like the plot/concept of the story I just wish that it had been presented with more depth and less superfluous dialogue. The "I hate You" got old quickly. This book was among my search results for horror novels. It's definitely not a horror. I would classify it as a cozy paranormal mystery with a bit of humor and the hint of a possible romance. The story did garner my attention from the beginning, the pacing was steady, and the writing style was concise even if a bit elementary. I didn't have a problem with the ending. The main objective of Liz and Vincent's immediate adventure was achieved. I also laughed a few time while reading this book. I know some reviewers complained about editing issues, but I guess I was too engrossed in the story to be distracted by any or as often happens I read so fast that my brain often automatically correct minor errors. In any event, I do plan to read the 2nd book because I like the plot and I know that frequently books in a series get progressively better. Mind you sometime they don't but I hope that this one does.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. It's complicatedBy KatOne day Liz Stokes was an ordinary office worker, but then her roommate Tim iskilled. All he leaves her is a ring and his snarky partner (friend) Vincent. Alsoshe is being hunted and Vincent is her only protection in the world that she has beenthrust into - a world where the paranormal exists. . .. Must read.I do like vampires so was interested in this series. This is the first book in the series.Liz is trying to take care of herself, but fails. She doesn't know how to act in thisnew world so unlike her own. Vincent is no help. He is a jerk, doesn't tell her any rules, and would rather be free (or suck her dry if he could due to the ring) than protect her.I may or may not come back to read the rest of the series. Still, this is a good back toread. It gets you into the action and it's told in the first person. Enjoy!See all 66 customer reviews...
